Southport is home - I was born here, I learnt my trade here, and I've been running SC Joinery out of Guildford Road since 2010. Seventeen years in the same town means I've worked on just about every style of property Southport throws up: seaside Edwardians on the Promenade, sturdy 1930s semis in High Park, post-war councils in Crossens, and plenty of new-builds in Kew and Marshside. When you call me, I'm probably already working on a street near you.
Working across every Southport postcode
Southport splits broadly into PR8 (the older Victorian/Edwardian core - Birkdale, Hesketh Park, the Promenade) and PR9 (Churchtown, Crossens, Marshside, and the newer estates to the east). Property types are wildly different between the two, and so is the joinery work.
In PR8 I do a lot of sympathetic restoration: sash window repairs, replacing rotten Victorian skirting boards with matched profiles, rehanging solid pitch-pine doors that have dropped over the decades. In PR9 it's more practical fit-outs: fitted wardrobes in master bedrooms, alcove cupboards in 1990s semis, fence runs along rear gardens.
The workshop is 10 minutes from your house
My workshop is on Guildford Road, a stone's throw from Hesketh Park. Everything gets cut, planed, jointed and pre-finished there before it comes to you, which means less dust in your house, shorter install times, and a better finish than anything you'll get bought-in. If you're in Birkdale, Kew, Marshside, High Park, Churchtown, Crossens, or central Southport, I can usually be on site within 15 minutes of a phone call for a quick survey.
Conservation areas and listed buildings
Parts of Southport are in conservation areas - Birkdale Village, Churchtown, the Promenade - and there are Grade II listed properties scattered throughout. Joinery work on listed buildings needs a lighter touch: original profiles need matching, period-appropriate materials used, and sometimes listed building consent applied for. I work regularly with Sefton Council's conservation officer and I'm happy to handle the application side, or liaise with your own architect.
