About

Time-served craftsmanship, built on trust.

SC Joinery is a family-run joinery based in Southport, founded and run by Sam Carr. Over 15 years of hands-on work - and a spotless local reputation to match.

Sam’s story - from apprentice to Southport’s trusted joiner.

Sam Carr started in joinery straight out of school, serving a full four-year apprenticeship with a local firm before working his way up through new-build, heritage restoration, and bespoke cabinet making. By the time he founded SC Joinery in 2010, Sam had already spent the best part of a decade on the tools - learning the kind of detail-focused craftsmanship that’s hard to find in an industry that too often cuts corners.

Today the business is still small and deliberately so. Sam runs every job personally, working alongside a small team of trusted tradespeople he’s known for years. No subcontracting strangers in at the last minute. No disappearing halfway through the week. When you book SC Joinery, the person who measured up is the person you’ll see on-site every morning until the job’s done.

What drives the work

It’s not a secret and it’s not a slogan - Sam genuinely believes joinery should be done properly, or not at all. That means taking the extra ten minutes to scribe a skirting board into an old lime-plaster wall, rather than caulking the gap. It means choosing timber that won’t warp on you two summers from now. And it means being honest when a customer’s idea won’t work, even when it would be easier to nod along and cash the cheque.

Local, and proud of it

SC Joinery is based in Southport and works almost exclusively in a 15-mile radius - Formby, Ainsdale, Birkdale, Churchtown, Crosby, Ormskirk and across West Lancashire. Staying local means we know the houses here: the quirks of Victorian bay fronts in Birkdale, the 1930s semis around Ainsdale, the newer estates out toward Banks and Tarleton. That experience shows up in the quality of the work.

Family-run, grown by word of mouth

The business has grown almost entirely through recommendations - customers telling their friends, family members commissioning second and third jobs, neighbours knocking on the door when they see the van. We don’t do pushy sales. We don’t do aggressive marketing. We just do the work properly and let the customers do the talking.

If you’ve been recommended to us, thank you - we’ll look after you the same way. And if you’ve found us through a search, feel free to read the reviews, look through the gallery, and get in touch when you’re ready. Most enquiries we come back to within 24 hours.
